THURSDAY AND FRIDAY TAURANGA ACRO CLASSES HAVE A NEW VENUE FROM TERM 4:
St Georges Church hall on the corner of Cameron Rd and Church Street just along from Mitre 10 Mega.
Same times for all classes (beginners 4-5pm, intermediate 5.00-6.15pm and advanced from 4.00-5.30pm).
BACKSTAGE HELPERS AT THE SHOWS (we still don't have enough):
It take a community to raise a child and an army to run a dance production! We couldn't put on a great show without a large number of volunteers.
Please let us know if you can help backstage and for which show (10am schools show/2.30pm public show/6.30pm public show) (the more the better).
We would love to hear from those who helped last year (remind us of the job you did so we can give you the same as last year to keep things easy).
Please email us if you are able to help. We will take your name and contact you closer to the time with an specifically allocated job - eg. looking after certain groups backstage, hair/make up etc (let us know if you have any experience in certain backstage jobs).
Don't worry if you have no previous or particular experience - we always needs helpers who can sit with some of our younger dance groups and escort them through the whole backstage process.
Please note that due to security and space restrictions NO parents are allowed backstage unless they are an authorised helper.
2017 HIP HOP CREW AUDITIONS:
Saturday 29 October
Mount Studio, level 2, 416 Maunganui Road
2-3pm Juniors (must be no older than 12 years old by 31 December this year)
3-4pm Varsity (is 13 years old by 31 December this year and no older than 17 on 31 December this year).
$5 audition fee payable in cash on the day
Dancers will be taught a short dance and then perform it in groups.
No spectators/parents in the auditions.
Auditions are open to everyone, you don't have to currently dance with Rise.
We are looking for 2x junior crews, 2 varsity crews and 2 development crews (one junior and one varsity).
Every one must audition and there is no preference given to those who were in Rise crews this year.
Crews are chosen with the following in mind:
Capability; attitude; versatility; performance skill and a good fit with the other members of the crew. We will also take in to consideration the attitude, work ethic, dedication and reliability of current students in class/crews.
BEFORE AUDITIONING IT'S IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO KNOW:
Although there are amazing growth and development opportunities associated with being in a crew there are also a lot of time and financial sacrifices. This can affect your social life (parents and students) and other family members.
CREW PRACTICES USUALLY HAPPEN ON FRIDAY AND SUNDAY AFTERNOONS/NIGHTS SO IF THAT IS GOING TO IMPACT ON YOUR OTHER FAMILY ACTIVITIES/REQUIREMENTS PLEASE DO NOT AUDITION.
We are looking for TEAM players. We don't want people in crews (students or parents) that don't get along with others.
We only want crew members whose priority is dance over any other activity/sport. Some of our dancers do do other sports and activities but if a practise for both fall on the same day we need to know your dance practise will take priority. Further to that the majority of our crew dancers only do dance so we are not willing to compromise.
DANCE MUST BE CREW MEMBERS' NUMBER ONE COMMITMENT/PASSION. WE DO NOT WANT ANYONE WHO PUTS A BIRTHDAY/PARTY/DISCO/FAMILY DINNER BEFORE A SCHEDULED DANCE PRACTICE. THIS IS A TEAM AND EVERY TIME SOMEONE IS NOT AT A PRACTICE IT AFFECTS EVERYBODY.
Parents need to be low maintenance! Keep up to speed with all information given via email and Facebook group, be helpful & drama free and pay by the due date without being chased.
THERE IS A SUBSTANTIAL COST WITH BEING INVOLVED IN A CREW – PRACTICES, COMP FEES, COSTUMES, TRAVEL (NATIONAL AND IF GOOD ENOUGH INTERNATIONAL).
THERE WILL BE SEVERAL TRIPS AWAY IN 2017, ALL OF WHICH COME AT A COST SO PLEASE CONSIDER THE IMPACT THAT WILL HAVE ON YOU BEFORE AUDITIONING.
POSSIBLE COMPETITIONS IN 2017:
March – SDNZ Regionals, Tauranga
June – Project, Tauranga
July – Wellington comp
August – Nelson comp
November –Brisbane – for any crews have done exceptionally well during the year
Crews will also be put forward for any performance opportunities that may arise during the year. Crews are also our first point of call for photoshoot and other opportunities that may arise.
ALL crew parents need to be prepared to give up some weekends and also on occasion a week day or two if crews are travelling out of town for a competition (usually leaving on Thursday or Friday). Unfortunately up until now it is usually the same parents doing all the driving/travelling/using up their annual leave days. Everyone needs to do their fair share in 2017.
Those successful will be notified within 7 days of the audition.
Crew members and their parents will be issued with an agreement which must be signed and returned before we announce the successful members of the crew.
Crew practices will start sometime in November.
Crew practices will also continue on a regular time and day right throughout the year, not only before competitions. There will be some breaks during most school holidays however. This is different to the way crews practices worked this year as we have identified the need for crew students to be working not only on their competition pieces but also on foundation skills.
SO PLEASE DON'T TAKE AUDITIONING LIGHTLY, WE ONLY WANT THOSE THAT ARE UNDERSTANDING OF THE COMMITMENT TO AUDITION AS IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN IN A CREW BEFORE IT IS PROBABLY A LOT MORE THAN YOU IMAGINED. WEIGH UP THE PROS AND CONS AND WE MAY SEE YOU THERE!
